Largo, FL – On Saturday, April 27th from 10am-2pm, The Largo Youth Leadership Council will be in the Woodrow Park neighborhood (290 3rd St NW) painting stormdrains to promote water quality. Join students and the City in our efforts to protect our waterways from the Gulf to the Bay as we celebrate a sustainable Largo.
In support of these efforts, Anvil Paint & Coatings, located at 1255 Starkey Rd, will be donating all of the paint to the students for their stormdrain paintings. This non-toxic paint will help ensure no additional pollutants will enter the waterway. Anvil will also be at the event to help support the students in their efforts to create a sustainable Largo for generations.
Commissioner Jamie Robinson, who leads the Youth Leadership Council, says “It is so important to involve our youth in not only the decision-making process but to also give them an opportunity to make a difference in the community. I think they have done an amazing job this year and can’t wait to see art around Largo that helps remind us all about the importance of the environment.”
When it rains, stormdrains can carry litter and pollutants from our homes, driveways and more straight to our waterways. Stormdrain art is a fun and colorful way to engage the community, brighten the neighborhood drains, and raise awareness about the importance of working to keep our streets clean. These efforts support the City’s Strategic Plan, Comprehensive Plan, and the Largo Environmental Action Plan.
Help spread the word about the connection between our streets and our streams by painting a storm drain in your neighborhood! For more information about this event or the Largo Youth Leadership Council, please email LYLC@largo.com or visit Largo.com/LYLC.
