Osprey, FL — The Oaks Women’s Club (OWC) recently awarded a total of $75,000 to 15 high school seniors with the scholarship award as part of the Women’s Club tradition of supporting local young women bound for college. Each of the 15 recipients received $5,000 to help them begin their college careers.
“Each one of these young women is a unique individual; however, they share many of the same characteristics: academic excellence, thoughtful community service, self-determination and passion.” said Oaks Women’s Club Scholarship Chair, Carol Keller. “Each year our scholarship program grows and we are very proud to be able to offer these graduates the help they need to ensure their educational futures.”
“In addition, due to the increased level of generosity within The Oaks Club community, an additional 15 $1,000 scholarships are being awarded to the 2018 recipients if they have maintained a 3.2 GPA during their freshman year,” said Sue Clack, co-chair.
The Oaks Women’s Club Scholarship program began just after the 9/11 attacks and in the first year of the program, the OWC raised funds to award 3 high school seniors $2,000 scholarships. Since the initial awards in 2002, the scholarship awards have assisted 125 individuals during the last 17 years with a total of $480,000.
