Palms of Pinellas to hold ribbon cutting/grand opening

April 11, 2019 by Post

Largo, FL (April 9, 2019) – On Thursday, April 25, 2019, the Pinellas County Housing Authority (PCHA) and Norstar Development USA will host a ribbon cutting at 11:00 a.m. for Palms of Pinellas, the area’s newest affordable workforce and market rate rental housing option.

Located at 13171 Belcher Road South in Largo, this 92 unit mixed-income community was designed and built to provide an exceptional value for the local workforce with top notch amenities and one, two and three bedroom apartment units. The development was built as an affordable option to attract households of different income levels earning up to 150% of the area median income.

“In Pinellas County there are thousands of people waiting for safe, affordable housing, including our firefighters, teachers and police officers, as well as our service industry workforce that is so vital to Pinellas County’s tourism industry. We designed our community to meet those needs being purposeful in choosing the location close to the major intersection of Ulmerton and Belcher, as well as, Largo Mall and other major employers in Pinellas County” stated Debbie Johnson, Executive Director of Pinellas County Housing Authority.

Palms of Pinellas is comprised of four, three-story buildings with courtyards designed in the middle to provide greenspace views. The modern, open living spaces and amenities are both welcoming and accommodating and include numerous interior and exterior energy-efficient features.

The units are enhanced with amenities that feature granite countertops, faux wood plank flooring, modern cabinetry with subway tile backsplash, washer and dryer, and satin nickel fixtures. Detached garages are also available. Residents are afforded access to a wifi lounge, clubhouse, sparkling resort style pool with lounge area, state of the art fitness center and aerobic studio and dog wash. Currently the property is 90% leased with only 10 available with the project being completed end of March.

One of the newest residents, Ulises Sala expressed, “When I found the Palms of Pinellas, I was really desperate to find a newer apartment close to my job that I could afford. The Palms was a pleasant surprise as I never thought I could afford it. Now I’m 5 minutes from work and love coming home!”

Palms of Pinellas is an example of the culmination of public-private funds to foster continual economic growth and vitality to Pinellas County. Total project cost is $13.3 million with a $938,000 investment from the Affordable Housing Land Assembly fund, supported by the Penny for Pinellas 1 percent sales tax and $1.5 million from Pinellas County.

Special guests at the Ribbon Cutting will include officials from Palms of Pinellas partners including Pinellas County, Pinellas County Housing Finance Authority, Norstar Development USA, Valley National Bank, and the PCHA.
