LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. — Neal Communities, southwest Florida’s premier, private homebuilder, contributed $2,500 as a sponsor for the 10th annual Suncoast BBQ and Bluegrass Bash hosted by the Suncoast Foundation for Handicapped Children.
For the past five years, the homebuilder has participated as a sponsor and entered a team in the chili cook-off contest. Named Boca Royale Golf & Country Club/Neal Communities, the five-member team placed sixth out of 19 teams in the judges’ competition, marking its best placement to date.
“With more than 20,000 attendees, this year’s event was certainly a record year for attendance and event income,” said Don Fisher, chairman and founder of the Suncoast BBQ and Bluegrass Bash. “I cannot overemphasize the appreciation we have for all the sponsors who enable us to offer a free community event. Without the continuous support of companies like Neal Communities, we would not be able to accomplish our mission of ensuring that our nonprofit partners can continue to serve individuals with special needs.”
The Suncoast BBQ and Bluegrass Bash is southwest Florida’s premier barbecue and bluegrass event, attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year. The event is designed to bring elite barbecue pit masters and award-winning bluegrass bands to Florida from all over the U.S. The fundraiser aims to raise awareness and contributions for the Suncoast Foundation for Handicapped Children as well as other participating area nonprofit organizations.
On Saturday, March 29, guests enjoyed a day full of barbecue and toe-tapping bluegrass music, craft beers, a chili cook-off, classic car and truck show, cornhole tournament, exhibits and family-friendly activities.
Proceeds from the event will be used to support and maintain both current and future facilities, as well as helping ensure the legacies of those who were instrumental in supporting the foundation’s mission.
The Suncoast Foundation for Handicapped Children has constructed 75,000 square feet of buildings in Sarasota County, which are leased for $1 per year to nonprofit agencies, such as Special Olympics, The Florida Center, Community Haven, Children’s First, Challenger Basketball, Sertoma Speech Clinic and the Loveland Center. Each year, they serve more than 8,000 children with disabilities and their families.
