Wesley Chapel, Fla- April 9, 2019 – Small World Pediatrics and the LEGO Group have teamed up to prescribe kids’ playtime. The LEGO Group’s Prescription for Play program is designed to encourage parents to play with their children for at least 15 minutes per day.
“As a pediatrician and a parent, I know the positive effects playtime has on kids,” said Dr. Nancy M. Silva, co-owner of Small World Pediatrics. “Before, we would stress the importance of limiting screen time and the benefits of physical activity. Now, with the help of the LEGO Group, we can give parents a tool to jumpstart playing together.
Inspired by its mission to promote learning through play, the LEGO Group launched Prescription for Play to encourage parents to play with their children for at least 15 minutes a day. Studies show this can result in a variety of developmental benefits for children, including increased creative, social and fine motor skills.
“Working with the Academy of American Pediatrics, we developed this program especially for pediatricians like Dr. Silva, who understand the benefits of play,” said Drew Vernon, brand manager at the LEGO Group. “Our goal is to promote parent-child play while developing cognitive and social skills among small children.”
Dr. Silva and other pediatricians, who are part of the Prescription for Play program, will physically write a prescription for parents and children at their 18-month or 2-year-old wellness visit. Also, they will receive a free sample set of LEGO® DUPLO® bricks and an educational prescription card to get them started on their play promise.
“We are thankful to the LEGO Group for creating this tool for children and families. We like to be on the cutting edge of programs like this which helps us keep our patients healthy, both physically and mentally,” said Dr. Jose D. Jimenez, co-owner of Small World Pediatrics.
