BRANDON, FL – March 25, 2019 – Join Brandon Ballet as they conclude their 25th Silver Anniversary Season with an evening of ballet from around the world. You’ll visit Russia, with Swan Lake Act 2. Next off to Europe, with August Bournonville’s Le Conservatoire and Jockey Dance. And finally, America, with the contemporary and neoclassical works, Bloomed & Plucked and Perpendicular Alignment.
The audience will enjoy traveling to the three countries, which have provided the world with ballet as we know it today. Swan Lake Act 2 premiered in 1877 by the Bolshoi Ballet and then in 1895 by the Imperial Ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia. Act 2 eloquently encapsulates romantic ballet with The Swan Queen and her flock of white swans, performed by Brandon Ballet’s Company Members and Professional Artists.
Originally choreographed by August Bournonville and set in the finest Parisian ballet school, Le Conservatoire is a vaudevillian ballet interpretation of the finest dance training from the 1820s. Studded with the musical joy evident of Bournonville, the “Pas d’Ecole” (“Dancing School”) theme permits the display of this effervescent style while elevating it to the level of enduring art. Staged by guest teacher and coach Karina Elver in August Bournonville’s style, this one-act version represents France and Europe in our journey around the world. France is the birthplace of ballet and houses the world’s first professional training school and ballet company (presently known as Paris Opera Ballet and Paris Opera Ballet School). This is the first time Le Conservatoire will be performed in central Florida.
Our final tour stop brings us to America with new and original choreography. Artistic Director Doricha Sales provides a stunning linear piece in Perpendicular Alignment. This neoclassical piece is sophisticated yet sleekly modern. Guest teacher, Shawn Cusseaux, has also created Bloomed & Plucked; a contemporary piece performed by Brandon Ballet Company Members. Its dramatic musical tone will grab your attention from the first movement until the final curtsy. Witness movement and structure unlike anything you’ve seen on stage.
Don’t miss the beauty and wonder of our 25th Anniversary Gala Celebration and tour the World with Brandon Ballet!
