WHO: Presented byBahá’ís of Brandon; everyone is welcome
WHAT: Presentation and discussion: “Advancing World Peace”.
WHEN: Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m.
WHERE: Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico, FL 33596
DETAILS: The public is invited to a free discussion and presentation by Professor of Speech and Communication at St. Petersburg College Anthony Ballard. The Paris Peace Conference, organized to set peace terms for all involved in WWI, opened in January, 1919. This year, on the 100th anniversary of the opening of that Conference, Bahá’í Faith world leaders released an inspirational letter to the public to explain the world’s current state of disorder and confusion which has increased the possibility of “catastrophic consequences,” and includes a call for all people to engage in the effort to establish enduring world peace.
Professor Ballard will give a dramatic reading of the letter, which includes Bahá’í leaders’ perspective of the progress of humanity to achieve world peace and the spiritual requisites for that effort. The meeting is this month’s presentation in the monthly series, Exploring Faith and Spiritual Reality in the Modern World: a Bahá’í Perspective.
Ballard received a B.A. in English from Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina, and a M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from South Carolina State University. Prior to joining the SPC faculty, he was a speech-language pathologist in the Pinellas County School District. In addition to teaching a basic speech course for the college, he also teaches Interpersonal Communication. Professor Ballard’s philosophy of education is based on the belief that education is a basic human right. When he is not teaching, he writes and performs original songs inspired by the spiritual teachings of the Bahá’í Faith. He has recorded and released two albums of original music.
Bahá’ís believe in the elimination of prejudice, the oneness of humanity, the independent investigation of truth, equality between men and women, the agreement between religion and science, and that there is only one God who created all of the major religions.
