The world is a mad place so what better way to express this than through the medium of hats! Art Lofts is calling for artists to create a decorative palate of haberdashery for a one-month show in May. We are looking for two types of works: artwork incorporating hats into the imagery (photography, painting, sculpture) and wearable hats which can be displayed as art. Entrants will be eligible for a $100 cash prize People’s Choice Award given to the piece with the most votes collected during the opening reception.
Patrons attending the show are encouraged to participate. Anyone who comes to the opening reception wearing a hat is eligible to participate in the Baddest Maddest Hat Contest. To enter, wear a hat to the Second Saturday ArtWalk between 5 and 9 PM on May 11. A photographer at Art Lofts will take a picture and collect contact information for each participant in the contest. These pictures will be assembled into a collage work and displayed as part of the art show. After the reception, a judge will select the winner with the most outstanding /hattitude-inspired piece to win a cash prize.
Rules for the show:
- Artists are encouraged to attend the reception (May 11, 5 – 9 PM) and to dress with hattitude.
- Sales are directly made between artist and patron. Art Lofts will not take a percentage of the sale.
- Art raffle: Art Lofts artists will provide works for a multi-piece raffle. Guest artists are welcome to donate art as well. Money raised by the raffle will be awarded to the Baddest Maddest Hat Contest winner.
- Artworks must be picked up on June 1st or by appointment with Karen Porter. Works left without contact from the artist will be considered abandoned works.
