Tickets are still available for the Stephen Schwartz hit musical Godspell. The Live Oak Theatre version of the 70s smash hit will be presented over three weekends from March 29 through April 14, at the Morsani Center for the Arts, 21030 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville, Florida. Shows are 7:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays with 2:30 pm matinees on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are $20, or $5 for children 13 and younger, when purchased with an adult ticket. Admission includes coffee, tea, and dessert, available 30 minutes before each performance.

About Godspell
Godspell is a musical composed by Stephen Schwartz with the book by John-Michael Tebelak. The show opened off Broadway on May 17, 1971 and has been produced by multiple touring companies in many revivals.
The musical is structured as a series of parables primarily based on the gospel of Matthew. The parables are interspersed with music set primarily to lyrics from traditional hymns. Godspell began as a project by the drama students at Carnegie Mellon University then moved to the off-off-Broadway theatre LaMaMa Experimental Theatre Club in the east village of Manhattan. The show was then rescored for an off-Broadway production which became a long running success.
Live Oak Theatre chose Godspell because it is ensemble driven, it features many memorable songs such as ”Day by Day,” and the improvisational nature of the script is filled with many fun and powerful moments. We truly believe audiences will be pleased with the result.
Godspell was a 1970s reimaging Jesus’ time on earth. It depicts Jesus teaching eight non-Biblical characters life lessons such as loving your neighbor, turning the other cheek, and humility through a series of non-linear parables most borrowed from the book of Matthew with a few parables and references coming from Luke and John as well. There have been many different versions of the play since its inception, each with its own unique twist on the material. Live Oak is no different. Stephen Schwartz, who wrote much of the description in the play book, makes several notes about how different scenes can be interpreted based on the directions of the director’s vision or to accommodate the time period that the show is set in.
