SARASOTA COUNTY – The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Suncoast Branch recently selected Sarasota County’s Director of Capital Projects Carolyn Eastwood as their Government Engineer of the Year for 2019.
The award recognizes excellence in the government engineering field, the civil engineers’ essential role in society, and the ongoing commitment to strategic and operational effectiveness.
Founded in 1868, the ASCE represents civil engineering professional in 177 countries.
“It was an honor to be selected by my colleagues, and to be a member of such a storied organization” said Eastwood. “The award is a testament to the leadership at Sarasota County Government, the hard work of my team, and our continued commitment to the responsible stewardship of public dollars.”
Eastwood was named Capital Projects director in October 2018. In her current role, she provides leadership, management and supervision to all elements of the county’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for all departments and CIP areas including but not limited to Utilities, Transportation, Stormwater, Facilities, Emergency Services and Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources. Eastwood has been with Sarasota County for over 20 years.
Currently, Eastwood is overseeing the completion of the new Atlanta Braves Spring Training Stadium in south Sarasota County. Upcoming capital projects include the Peace River Watermain and Potable Water Transmission Main, fire stations on Bee Ridge Road, Apex Road and on Siesta Key, as well as the Legacy Trail Extension Project.
