(Sarasota, Florida) – Chef Gino Calleja, executive chef and proprietor of Reyna’s Taqueria, an authentic taste of Mexico, announces their “Martes de Carnaval” Celebration from Friday, March 1 though Tuesday, March 5, 2019. The five day Mexican-style Carnival celebration, or “Mardi Gras”, (Fat Tuesday) features freshly-made, daily traditional Mexican Carnival food and drink specials. Kicking off the celebration on Friday, March 1, 2019 Chef Gino focuses on the creation of several festive Taco Specials, just for the occasion. Saturday, March 2 offers the traditional “Vuelve a la Vida (“return to life”, presumable post-celebration but is delicious any time) served chilled, includes a combination of assorted fresh seafood in a house-made spicy tomato-citrus sauce; also served on Saturday are Reyna’s house-made chicken, pork, and beef Tamales. On Sunday, March 3 Reyna’s Traditional Sunday Soup is offered along with a house-special “Micheladas”, a chilled beer with spicy salsa and lemon. Monday, March 4 features “Grilled Mahi Tacos” with an avocado-slaw and chipotle crema. The final carnival celebration day, Tuesday, March 5 Chef Gino prepares a special Fat Tuesday Reyna’s Mexican Platter and creates refreshing House Margaritas! Prices for “Martes de Carnaval” Celebration menu specials range from $2.75-$13.50.
Open seven days a week, Sunday through Thursday from 11am-9:30pm and Friday and Saturday from 11am-10:30pm, Reyna’s Taqueria offers indoor and outdoor dining with house-made, traditional Mexican food created by Chef Gino Calleja.
Other popular menu items include: “Al Pastor Sopes”: Sopes are a unique Mexican item, a cousin of the tortilla, but are fried corn dough, hand-crafted into thick patties with raised edges, spread with refried black beans, filled with Guajillo Marinated Pork Shoulder, topped with lettuce, queso fresco, crema, avocado, and topped with salsa. “Barbacoa Tacos” are traditional Mexican tacos served warm with slowly-braised beef and traditional spices, pickled onions, cilantro, and topped with your choice house-made salsa. “Chicken Tinga Molote”, Blue Corn Paddy filled with pulled chicken breast, chipotle peppers & onions, and Oaxaca cheese topped with queso fresco, crema, and salsa roja. “Reyna’s House-made Sangria” is refreshing and fruity, and is a Calleja family recipe.
