Artists’ talks, demonstrations and performances
In honor of the Glass Art Society Conference (GAS) that will be held from March 29-31 in St. Petersburg, Duncan McClellan and Mary Childs are curating an exhibition of glass masters at Florida CraftArt. “QUEST: A Celebration of Glass” features artists from across North America who draw on mythological, cultural and personal imagery. Each work of art illustrates the artist’s intimate and expansive journey of self-exploration and communication.
The exhibition is sponsored by Duncan McClellan Gallery and DMG School Project. “We are very pleased to be collaborating with Florida CraftArt to bring this exhibition to the St. Petersburg community,” Duncan McClellan says. “Working with our wonderful established arts entities here in the city and the greater Tampa Bay Area enriches everyone and is a goal of the Duncan McClellan Gallery and the DMG School Project.”
Duncan McClellan’s visionary and pioneering spirit led to the development of the Warehouse Arts District where he created his gallery, glass-blowing studio and home out of an old tomato warehouse. Today, artists come from all over the world to create art in his studio and show their work in his gallery which is popular with collectors and visitors alike.
Fourteen renowned artists will be featured in the exhibition: John Brekke, Hyunsung Cho, Terri Grant, Jack Gramann, Eric Hilton, Richard Jolley, Richard Logan, Duncan McClellan, Paul J. Nelson, Stephen Pon, Eduardo Prado, Lisabeth Sterling, Alexis Silk and Tim Tate. Several of these artists will present talks about their work. Mary Childs, who curated the exhibition, says, “We are honored to present artists whose lifetimes have been dedicated to the highest levels of self-expression and technical excellence.”
Florida CraftArt visitors are asked to vote for their favorite work of art. The exhibition will culminate with a closing reception in which the “People’s Choice Award” will be presented.
