(Manatee, FL – Feb 1, 2019) – Blast off with the Take Stock 5K Space Race on March 3 in Lakewood Ranch at 8 am.
The annual event, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, can boast being the largest 5K in Manatee County with 2,000 runners anticipated. Registration is now open at TakeStockManatee.org or in person at Fit2Run at the UTC mall or Main Street in Sarasota.
The event benefits Take Stock in Children of Manatee mentorship and scholarship programs. “Take Stock scholars overcome challenges daily to defy gravity – and our 5K Space Race invites the community to defy gravity with us,” said executive director Jamie Serino.
The family-friendly Take Stock 5K Space race offers runs for both the elite and fun runner including age runs from 3 and up, the Mentor Mile, a Virtual Run and more in addition to the 5K.
In honor of the 10th anniversary of the Take Stock annual run, special 10th Anniversary Winners Medals will be awarded to the first three male and female finishers in each age group as well as the Overall, Master, Grandmaster and Senior Grandmaster.
Entry fees, which range from $15 – $45 with discounts for Manatee County school employees, go towards scholarships. For every 300 people entering on behalf of a school, the school receives a Take Stock scholarship to award to one of their qualifying students. Race participants can select a Manatee County school from a drop down menu on the entry form.
New this year, businesses and faith-based organizations have the opportunity to adopt a school, enabling school to receive a scholarship for a qualified student of their choosing.
