Two New Art Shows Open January 18 at the Uptown City Art

The Uptown Art Gallery at City Hall announces two new shows opening January 18. “Paint That Tune” will feature local artists who have let music guide their creations. This show promises a variety of subjects and mediums, each influenced by and named after a specific tune. An additional show—“Off the Wall” — will adorn part of the gallery’s second floor with several local residents’ personal collections taken literally off their walls.  This collection will include paintings, prints, etchings manuscripts, stained glass, silk embroidery and other items. Among the several items of historical significance is an illustrated manuscript on parchment C1650. This item is contributed by Roger Sherman, former Hernando County Fine Arts Council chair, who conceived of the idea of the “Off the Wall” exhibit. This is a unique opportunity to see the art some of your neighbors collect.  An opening reception for both shows will be held at the gallery, 201 Howell Avenue, Brooksville, FL, January 18, 2019, 5:30-7:30 pm.  The reception is open to the public and will include entertainment from the B’s 3, as well as refreshments.  “Paint That Tune” will run through March 9, and “Off the Wall” will run through January 31.  Art may be viewed when City Hall is open, Monday through Friday, 8 am-5 pm. Uptown Art Gallery was established in 1998 in cooperation with the Hernando Fine Arts Council and the City of Brooksville.  City Hall provides an ideal location for local and regional artist to display their work.  The gallery hosts new exhibits throughout the year.
