Embracing Our Differences Welcomes Sarah Wertheimer to Board of Directors

December 26, 2018 by Post

EOD’s executive director has joined the board of Embracing Our Differences.

(Sarasota, Florida) Dennis McGillicuddy, co-founder and board chair of Embracing Our Differences, announced recently that the organization has welcomed Sarah Wertheimer to the organization’s board of directors.

Wertheimer, 30, joined Embracing Our Differences as associate executive director in 2014, and was appointed executive director in 2018. As executive director, she is responsible for overseeing the organization’s staff, programs, policies and strategic plans. Wertheimer also coordinates fundraising, marketing and community relations campaigns. Prior to her engagement with EOD, Wertheimer served as director of development for The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee, and as development coordinator for Children First, Inc. In 2017, she was chosen as a member of Leadership Florida Connect Class VIII. Wertheimer is a board member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and co-chaired the organization’s National Philanthropy Day. She is also a volunteer and event chair for Planned Parenthood of Southwest & Central Florida, Children First, Inc., and the American Cancer Society. Wertheimer graduated from the Gulf Coast Leadership Institute in 2014 and served as a member of the steering committee for Equality Florida in 2015. In 2017, she was selected by SRQ Magazine as one of Sarasota’s “30 Under 30.” Born and raised in Sarasota, Wertheimer graduated cum laude from the University of Central Florida with dual degrees in philosophy and Spanish.

“For the past five years, Sarah has shown remarkable leadership skills,” says McGillicuddy. “She has channeled her commitment to community and her fierce work ethic and creativity in a way that has significantly contributed to bringing EOD into the forefront of our region’s cultural landscape. Sarah leads a team as dedicated as she is to developing innovative approaches that promote a culture of respect, inclusion and empowerment for all people in our region.”

Wertheimer says she’s honored to be welcomed to the board of directors.

“My life is committed to building community partnerships, promoting acceptance, and finding ways to empower people to live better lives while respecting our differences.  I’m honored to participate with a group of people who share these values.”

Embracing Our Differences board of directors includes Dennis McGillicuddy, chair; Graci McGillicuddy, vice-chair; Richard Bergman, secretary/treasurer; and Larry Lev, John Weber, and Chief Judge Charles E. Williams.
