GULFPORT, FL: Visit Gulfport Florida on Friday, January 4, and meet 11 year old author, Joe Milburn.
This month’s featured artist is Local 11 year old author Joe Milburn, a 2017 Mom’s Choice Awards® Gold Recipient. Milburn, the author of The Original Imagination Games, learned early on how constant use of electronics was affecting him after having them taken away as a punishment. “I know what it’s like to not want to turn off the electronics, but now other things hold my attention.” Milburn said. Milburn goes on to say, “Although I still uses my X-box and iPad, it is not nearly as much as in the past and there is definitely a good balance now.”
The Original Imagination Games, will introduce children to a whole new world of creative pretend play! The book includes 10 chapters of which are detailed imaginary games with characters, goals and instructions on how to play in an easy format for young kids to understand. The book also includes areas for the reader to pen their own game elements and two empty chapters to write their very own games. In addition, there is a reward incentive for finishing the book and “winning all 10 game badges” that is detailed in the book. Joe Milburn is a rising fifth grader with a knack for the make believe. He attends Northside Christian School in St. Petersburg, Florida and lives with His Mother, Father and two siblings. When he’s not pretending, Joe spends his time playing with his bearded dragon Sandy and playing lacrosse.
The Gulfport Art & Gallery Walk event, produced by the non-profit Gulfport Merchants Chamber, takes place from 6-10 p.m. every first Friday and third Saturday – rain or shine, all year round, and is home to dozens of artisans and craftsmen each month.
