SARASOTA, FL – The Sarasota YMCA Roberta Leventhal Sudakoff Youth Shelter was recently the beneficiary of a $15,000 donation from Personalized Estate Liquidation Benefiting Youth, Inc. (PEL). The Youth Shelter provides temporary housing and safe care for youths ages 10-17 who have run away, are experiencing family conflict, or have been locked out of their homes. The shelter is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week; there are 20 beds available. According to Y leaders, 90 percent or more youth reunite with their families or find suitable living arrangements; while in the shelter, all youth have their counseling needs met.

PEL, a qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and PEL Consignments, LLC, its affiliated company, run estate sales from people’s homes or from its 9,400-square-foot store. It accepts donations or consignments with a minimum value of $1,000. PEL handles sales from start to finish — advertising, staging and running the sales. Donating and shopping at PEL enables the nonprofit arm of its operations to help a variety of causes that support youth in the community, including the Sarasota YMCA Youth Shelter, Faces of Accomplishment, Forty Carrots Family Center, Child Protection Center, Community Haven, and Mothers Helping Mothers.

“The Y’s Youth Shelter is so important to the community as if takes children with no place else to go due to circumstances that warrant them leaving their homes,” said PEL board president Sharon Kenworthy, who noted that her own granddaughter once needed the services of the Youth Shelter during a rough patch. “It has given so many the boost they have needed.”

PEL has been supportive of the Youth Shelter for many years, in the past as a subsidiary of the YMCA Foundation but, for the past couple of years, as an independent not-for-profit.
