The Fountains Celebrates Holidays from around the World

December 11, 2018 by Post

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Dec. 11, 2018) – In the spirit of the holiday season, local independent and assisted living and memory care community The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, is celebrating holidays from around the world. The community has planned events for Christmas, Hannukuh, and Kwanza, as well as a special event honoring holidays from around the world.

“It’s our goal to make all of our residents feel at home during the holidays, and celebrating their traditions with family and friends is one way we can do that,” said Suzanne Burtzlaff, Executive Director of The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay. “We’re thrilled to join in on the celebration and connect with our residents during this magical time of year.”

The community will host “Holidays Around the World” presented by Chris Wells on December 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium. The event will discuss Christmas traditions in other counties such as Denmark, Brazil, Iceland, the Philippines and the continent Africa, as well as the traditions of Hanukhah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day and other seasonal celebrations. Wells will focus on how many of the traditions we have in the United States are derived from celebrations in other countries that have been passed down through the generations.

“It’s really important that all of our residents’ traditions are represented around the holidays, which is why we make a point to honor the less mainstream celebrations,” said Melissa Krysh, Community Life Director at The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay. “We’re so excited to join residents in their celebration and also to teach them something new about their neighbors’ traditions. This coming together is what the holiday season is all about.”

Krysh will also host “The Traditions of Kwanzaa” on December 26 at 2:00 p.m. and will discuss the history of the holiday, as well as special greetings, and how this holiday differs from others. This will be followed by the community’s first Kwanzaa Karumu Feast on December 31 at 12:00 p.m.

Additional holiday events include:
• December 2 – 9, 6:00 p.m., Menorah Lighting in the Lobby
• December 6, 2:00 p.m., A Festival of Freedom & Faith: Hanukkah’s Circle of Songs
• December 10 at 2:00 p.m., Health Eating for the Holidays with Dr. De La Cruz
• December 11, 9:00 a.m., Annual Holiday Breakfast and visit with Our Savior School
• December 25 at 2:00 p.m., Christmas Day Show with the Just Us Duo
