November 19, 2018 [St. Petersburg, FL] – The Florida Holocaust Museum (The FHM) has announced its #GivingTuesday Seven Dollar Difference campaign to enable the Museum to share the lessons of the Holocaust with students across the State of Florida. Thanks to the generosity from Dr. David H. and Myra Gross for donating $2,000 and Rachael and Don Worthington for donating $500, The FHM’s Giving Tuesday donations received on November 27, 2018 will go farther than ever. Every dollar donated on Giving Tuesday will be matched up to $2,500!
The recent events at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh were devastating. As The Florida Holocaust Museum’s Board of Directors and staff mourn the loss of innocent lives, we are once again reminded of the vital importance of our work to create a better world for our children and future generations.
In the days following this heart-breaking tragedy, we heard from school representatives in our community and across the state. They sought Holocaust education materials and inquired about Museum tours and programs. We also received alarming calls from community leaders and other parents whose children were experiencing Antisemitism at school.
Our need and resolve to educate against Antisemitism and hate has never been stronger.
The work of The Florida Holocaust Museum has never been more relevant than it is today. One of the primary lessons of the Holocaust is that people must not remain silent when they are confronted by prejudice. We must increase our efforts to educate people of all ages of the dangers of unchecked hatred and to offer them tangible tools they can use to make their schools, their communities, and the world a better place.
We remain committed to putting an end to bigotry and hate, and to continuing to teach the very important lessons of the Holocaust. Please join us and be a part of the solution. Consider The Florida Holocaust Museum as you make your year-end contributions. Never has there been a more urgent need for YOU to support The Florida Holocaust Museum and enable us to continue to be responsive to the needs of our local community, throughout the state of Florida, and our country.
Each year, The FHM is overwhelmed with requests from schools that would like to bring their students to the Museum, but can not afford admission. A $7 donation pays for a Museum tour for one student, $35 brings five students to the Museum, and $105 brings a class of fifteen. All students should have the privilege to speak with a Holocaust Survivor while it is still possible.
Thank you in advance for your support, and for being an Upstander. Be sure to follow the hashtag #TheFHMGivingTuesday on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to see what a difference $7 makes.
