
(Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 6, 2018) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has named Colleen Burgess director of nursing programs. Burgess, who holds a doctor of educational leadership from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, received her bachelor’s and master’ in nursing from the University of Akron with a specialty in consultation liaison.
In 2014 the North Carolina Nurses Association named Burgess one of the Great 100 Nurses in North Carolina. She is a board-certified nurse psychotherapist and was known in North Carolina for advocating for patients and families coping with chronic disabilities.
Her research and practice support women and diversity, vulnerable populations and oppressed groups. She is a national speaker on topics related to communication, empowerment, team building and leadership and is published in journals and text books.
