Tarpon Springs Business News – November 2018

November 1, 2018 by Post

It’s Small Business Saturday month, and the season to really support our local businesses and restaurants.  More than 80% of the City’s businesses are small and independent.  Shop local and keep our economy thriving.

Shop Small Saturday; Shop Local Every Day

Small Business Saturday began in 2010, and the National Retail Federation forecasts that 76% of the 71 million US consumers that will shop on Saturday, will do so to support small business.  In Tarpon Springs, an Arts & Crafts festival is being held to help bring more shoppers Downtown.  The City is allowing businesses to display outdoor merchandise, flags, and banners to advertise their special promotions. To help guide locals and visitors to the many businesses in the historic Downtown, the City has created a Downtown walking map.  Shop Small Saturday on Nov. 24, and every day!

Beautification To Enhance Downtown, Docks

Downtowns are critical to tourism programs, and visitors and locals prefer pedestrian-friendly, intimate areas.  To better create that atmosphere, the City is embarking on a beautification program that adds new wayfinding and street signs, lighting and flower baskets/planters to areas of the Downtown and Sponge Docks. The program, including samples of proposed signage, was discussed at an October Board of Commissioners workshop.

Click here for the presentation, and watch for prototypes of the new signs in the coming months.

Community Garden Officially Opens

Jessie’s Garden, a project of the non-profit Tarpon Springs Community Gardens, is hosting a ribbon cutting Thursday, Nov. 8, noon. The garden is located at 116 N. Ring Ave., in a lot deeded to the City a few years ago.  Come join the festivities and support the City’s first Community Garden.

Welcome Demosthenes the Dolphin

Demosthenes the Dolphin, one of 120 dolphins on the Clearwater Dolphins Trail, will be dedicated at a ceremony Monday, Nov. 5, 4 p.m.  The Dolphin was relocated from inside the Tarpon Springs Chamber to a more visible site in front of the City Marina on the Sponge Docks.
