Spring Hill, Florida (October 29, 2018) – Hernando Orthopaedic & Spinal Surgery announces that Michael W. Higgins, DO, has been recognized by the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics as a fellow and may now use the credentials FAOAO. Dr. Higgins was recognized this past weekend at the 2018 American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics award ceremony at the Hilton Atlanta. The ceremony was held at the academy’s annual convention, where DR. Higgins also served as a general session moderator.
In attendance at the award ceremony were Dr. Higgins’s wife, Cara, and three sons, Edward, age 13, Ian, age 10, and Patrick, age 6.
Dr. Higgins was one of only 13 physicians nationally recognized with the degree of Fellow. He has been a practitioner in Hernando County for 15 years. Dr. Higgins was recently recertified by the Osteopathic Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also a Senior Clinical Examiner of the Osteopathic Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
He is a Florida native and is a graduate of the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University in North Miami Beach. He completed his spinal surgery fellowship at the prestigious New York University/Hospital for Joint Diseases. Dr. Higgins completed his residency at Peninsula Hospital Consortium in New York. Prior to his residency he served as Chief Intern at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, Florida.
