LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – Halfacre Construction Company, a commercial construction company, is launching a new cold storage division at its Lakewood Ranch-based headquarters.
With more than 20 years of experience with refrigerated construction, Halfacre Construction Company has been involved in numerous energy-efficient cold storage projects, combining the latest technologies to yield unprecedented energy savings.
This new division will provide a full range of cold storage services for new construction, renovations, additions and adaptive reuse for cold storage construction, distribution centers, food processing facilities, coolers, freezers, grow rooms, pharmaceutical storage, insulated metal panels and general construction.
“This client-driven division was created to provide our customers with unique solutions that address their most demanding concerns, such as temperature stability, energy costs and maintenance,” said Jack Cox, president of Halfacre Construction Company. “For a typical cold storage facility, after wages, electricity is the second largest operation cost. Our tried-and-true approach helps reduce energy consumption and improve facility efficiencies.”
Led by Shannon Barrier, who is spearheading the new division as the director of design, the team assesses all active building components to reduce electrical consumption, evaluates the current systems for maximum proficiency in the entire system and aims to recover waste energy to generate electricity or to produce thermal energy for processes within the cold storage operation.
“Cold storage construction requires expertise in highly specialized facilities and specific knowledge is needed to be successfully delivered,” said Barrier. “Refrigerated warehouses, frozen food distribution centers and grocery freezers are the highest energy-consuming sectors per cubic foot in the world. To help reduce energy consumption and improve efficiencies, cold storage facilities must integrate the most energy-efficient systems available to remain competitive in the market. We harnessed our team’s extensive experience to incorporate those proficiencies as environmental stewards for a highly functional facility while also adhering to the internationally accepted standards for cold storage design and specifications.”
A licensed architect in multiple states, Barrier’s background draws from many different types of energy-efficient cold storage facilities across the southeast U.S., including refrigerated warehouses, food distribution centers, processing plants and public and private cold storage applications.
Halfacre Construction’s past cold storage clients include Del Monte, Blue Bell, Tri-Eagle Sales, Port Manatee, Ohio Eagle Distributing, Gold Coast Eagle Distributing, Global Organics, Pacific, Green Reefers, Bernie Little Distributors, Peace River Distributing and Manatee County.
