The Dawson Academy changes leadership roles, adds to executive team

October 15, 2018 by Post

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Oct. 10, 2018) – Over the past 40 years, The Dawson Academy has helped more than 30,000 dentists and dental lab technicians learn to confidently solve complex dental problems, made dentistry enjoyable and helped create practices that provide work/life balance. To continue these successes, The Dawson Academy is growing its leadership team.

Longtime President Joan Forrest, BA, MS becomes Executive Vice President – Innovation and Business Development for the Academy. At the same time, the Academy’s Vice President of Marketing and Sales Don Berbary moves into a new role as Executive Vice President – Revenue and Operations.

“There are opportunities for The Dawson Academy to teach the Concept of Complete Dentistry® to significantly more dental professionals,” said Dr. John Cranham, clinical director of The Dawson Academy. “With Joan and Don leading the Academy together, we have a strong foundation and strategic leadership to support our expansion plans.”

Joan Forrest, BA, MS is transitioning from President to Executive Vice President – Innovation and Business Development. Since 1993, she’s skillfully balanced managing the Academy’s worldwide day-to-day operations and setting the long-term vision for the Academy.

In her new role, Joan will work closely with Clinical Director Dr. John Cranham to develop new curriculum that meets dental professionals’ needs and addresses their knowledge gaps. She’ll also identify and vet opportunities to expand the Academy’s reach in the U.S. and internationally.

Don Berbary is moving from Vice President of Marketing and Sales to Executive Vice President – Revenue and Operations. He joined the Academy last year with deep experience at the highest levels of management for large professional education organizations like the Practising Law Institute and Learning Tree International.

In his new role, Don will oversee day-to-day operations for the Academy, work closely with the Academy’s faculty and staff, and seek additional opportunities for revenue generation.

The expanded leadership team will have the capacity to capitalize on market opportunities while ensuring the quality of the continuing education courses remain consistent as the organization expands. The expansion plans are fueled by an investment made by Valencia Capital last year.
