BRADENTON, Fla. — The office of the Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller has earned a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of United States and Canada (GFOA) for the county’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and Popular Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2017.
This marks the 39th consecutive year the Manatee County Clerk of Court has received the CAFR recognition and the 20th consecutive year for its Popular Annual Financial Report.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award is a prestigious national award that recognizes conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government popular reports. The report tells the financial story of a local government, and it is written for the non-financial reader who has strong interest in the government’s financial responsibility.
“It’s an honor to receive this recognition again,” said Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller Angel Colonneso. “The most important component in providing this information is that it is a fundamental and critical part of how we provide transparency to our taxpayers in Manatee County. It is imperative that taxpayers are confident in that service and know how and where their money is being spent.”
The comprehensive annual financial report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read it.
