October 9, 2018 [St. Petersburg, FL] — The Florida Holocaust Museum’s (The FHM) Annual Kristallnacht Commemoration takes place at the Museum on Friday, November 9th at 4:00 p.m. The program will remember the 80th Anniversary of Kristallnacht, “the Night of Broken Glass,” with a commemoration service, including prayers and candle-lighting with Holocaust Survivors. Included in the commemoration service, musical themes will be played from A Child of Our Time. The FHM’s Annual Kristallnacht Commemoration is free and open to the public.
Additionally, this year’s commemoration at The FHM on November 9th will include free Museum admission from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
“We remember Kristallnacht because it was the first act of widespread violence against the Jews by the Nazis and was a prelude to the murder of six million innocent people,” said Erin Blankenship, The FHM’s Curator of Exhibitions and Collections.
Kristallnacht owes its name to the shards of shattered glass that lined German streets from broken windows on November 9-10 in 1938. Throughout the night, thousands of Jewish-owned businesses, homes, and synagogues were ransacked and destroyed in a coordinated series of attacks throughout Germany. This was the first widespread use of massive force against Jews by the Nazi regime and figures as an essential turning point in Nazi Germany’s persecution of Jews.
The Florida Holocaust Museum is located at 55 5th Street S, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.
