St. Petersburg, FL (October 2, 2018) – The public is encouraged to learn more about 12 proposed Florida constitutional amendments that will appear on the November ballot during one-hour information sessions held at three St. Petersburg libraries in October. Representatives of the League of Women Voters St. Petersburg Area will explain the proposed amendments on:

  • Wednesday, October 3, at the Mirror Lake Community Library, 280 Fifth St. N. at 5:30 p.m.;
  • Sunday, October 14, at the Main Library, 3745 Ninth Ave. N., at 1 p.m.;
  • Monday, October 15, at the James W. Johnson Community Library, 1059 18th Ave. S., at 5:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, November 6, registered voters will have an opportunity to consider the amendments, some of which would increase the homestead property tax exemption; allow Florida voters to approve casino gambling; restore voting rights to Florida felons except in murder or sex offenses cases; create constitutional rights for crime victims; prohibit offshore oil and gas drilling and ban gambling on commercial dog racing by 2020. More information on all 12 proposed amendments is available at https://vote.lwvspa.org/election-guide/.
