LARGO, Fla. (Sept. 21, 2018) – Sunstar Paramedics employee Maya Daniels was selected as one of the 12th Congressional District First Responders of the Year. Daniels was honored for her service at a special appreciation banquet hosted by U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis.
Daniels began her career in emergency medical services (EMS) after caring for her aging grandmother. She joined Sunstar Paramedics as a paramedic in 2012, and she’s remained committed to providing compassionate and high-quality patient care throughout her career. She offers comfort and compassion during what may be the most vulnerable or fragile time in a patient’s life.
In addition to being a paramedic, Daniels works as a field training officer (FTO) to train and mentor new Sunstar Paramedics employees. In this role, she encourages paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) to make compassion a top priority while also providing top-quality medical care.
“Maya is an exceptional member of the Sunstar Paramedics team,” said Sunstar Paramedics’ chief operating officer John Peterson. “She treats everyone, patient or co-worker, with respect, kindness and understanding, and we’re very proud that she’s been recognized for her commitment to our community.”
Daniels is also dedicated to safety, especially on the job. She holds a top score rating in Sunstar Paramedics’ driving standards, and her clinical skills are consistently rated in the top categories of the company’s quality improvement (QI) program. She maintains an overall advanced life support (ALS) rating of 100 percent.
The Gus Bilirakis 12th Congressional District First Responder of the Year awards recognized one law enforcement officer, fire fighter, and paramedic from each agency. Each one has gone above and beyond in service to our community.
