Pasco-Hernando State College will host speakers, guest lecturers, exhibits, presentations, interactive workshops, and peace festivals for the 11th annual Peace Week, September 24–28. Peace Week events following the theme of Unity will be held on PHSC’s East Campus in Dade City, North Campus in Brooksville, Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch in Wesley Chapel, Spring Hill Campus, and West Campus in New Port Richey.
A variety of presentations and lectures are scheduled throughout the week, including: Stand Together, Coffee with a Cop, Wellness Techniques and Chair Yoga, and A Mission of Love—Bikers against Child Abuse. Additionally, a variety of guest lecturers and faculty presenters will host sessions throughout Peace Week.
Unity festivals, with drum circles, exhibits and displays, will be held at each campus. Those interested in expressing ideas about peace may enjoy creating crafts, including tie-dye t-shirts.
At the Spring Hill Campus, Buddhist monks will create a sand mandala, a circular mural created from colored sand. The design takes days to complete as small tubes, funnels and scrapers are used to carefully place the sand. Upon completion, the sand mandala will be displayed for a short period of time before a dissolution ceremony is held to signify spreading kindness and compassion into the world and the impermanence of people and the world around us
