NORTH VENICE, Fla. – More than 25 team members and leaders at PGT Innovations’ (NYSE: PGTI) North Venice location worked together to assemble and deliver SchoolTools backpacks to make a difference in the lives of local children in need through World Vision, a global Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.
This year, PGT Innovations donated 250 backpacks, totaling $6,000, through World Vision. Its employees, who have participated in this program for nine years, filled the backpacks with a sweet note of encouragement and supplies, such as pens, pencils, notebooks, binders, filler paper, pencil pouches, folders, pencil sharpeners, erasers, rulers, crayons, glue sticks, scissors and markers.
“PGT Innovations has been a faithful supporter of the SchoolTools Kit for nine years,” said Mary Garcia, corporate relations director for World Vision. “This event is offered by World Vision to enable corporations, organizations and associations the opportunity to provide essential supplies to their immediate neighborhoods. PGT Innovations employees roll up their sleeves every August to assemble the backpacks and write notes of encouragement for under-privileged children. More than 2,000 backpacks have been distributed in Charlotte County schools through PGT Innovations.”
The backpacks were distributed to students at East Elementary School in Charlotte County. PGT Innovations company leaders delivered the backpacks to the students on the morning of August 23.
“Our team aims to support organizations like World Vision because they are closely aligned with PGT Innovations’ core values,” said PGT Innovations CEO and President Jeff Jackson. “For many years, our folks have been dedicated to supporting this truly worthy cause, which directly assists children within our community. Children are the future, and we want to ensure these students have all the tools necessary to make their futures bright and filled with opportunities.”
Across the country, businesses, schools and groups of all kinds are joining the SchoolTools campaign. While a simple effort, new school supplies inspire and encourage children to engage in learning, invoking creativity and setting the foundation for a brighter future.
“We are honored that PGT Innovations and World Vision have adopted East Elementary for their backpack giveaway program again this year,” said Dr. Lori Carr, principal of East Elementary School in Punta Gorda. “The students who receive backpacks are so excited to discover they are filled with school supplies. Backpacks and school supplies can be expensive, so our students’ parents are very appreciative of this assistance. Students’ backpacks can get lost or damaged during the school year, and through the generosity of PGT Innovations, we are able to give the student a new backpack no matter when they may need one. This is a wonderful program for our students and families.”
