Tampa, Fla., August 23, 2018 – Ultimate Medical Academy’s Clearwater Campus has formed a partnership with the Here We Grow Foundation to serve as a diaper distribution center for the Here We Grow Foundation’s diaper bank program in Pinellas County.
On Monday, August 20, leaders from UMA, a nonprofit healthcare educational institution, and the Here We Grow Foundation were joined by students from UMA’s Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, Patient Care Technician, and Nursing Assistant programs to announce the partnership at a ceremony at the campus located at 1255 Cleveland St. in Clearwater, Florida.
“Many of the students we serve in our healthcare training programs are female adults who are returning to school after having children,” UMA Clearwater Campus Director Dr. Rebecca Sarlo said. “This partnership reflects a concerted effort on our part not only to serve the needs of our students, but also to serve our communities in Pinellas County.”
An official member of the National Diaper Bank Network, the Here We Grow Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to meeting the social and economic needs of children and families residing in disadvantaged communities in Pinellas County.
“Access to diapers enables young children to participate in early childhood education, and it allows parents to work,” Here We Grow Foundation Program Director Meredith Scott explained. “However, many of our social assistance programs that are meant to serve the underserved exclude diaper access.”
According to the UC Berkley Center for Labor Research and Education, young children who participate in early childhood education are 2.5 times more likely to go on to higher education.
Individuals in need of access to diapers must first make an appointment with the Here We Grow Foundation to complete application materials by: visiting the foundation at 1301 N. Highland Ave. in Clearwater; calling 727-734-4841; or emailing herewegrowfoundation@ymail.com. Once
applicants have been approved, they will be able to schedule a monthly visit to the UMA Clearwater Campus to pick up diapers in the size(s) they have specified. Community members can make monetary or diaper donations to the Here We Grow Foundation. They can also host a diaper drive or serve as a diaper drop-off location.
