Feeding Empty Tummies…One Backpack at a Time

August 10, 2018 by Post

On Tuesday, August 28th, The JOY FM will collect non-perishable food items at 15 locations throughout our Florida listening area including Gainesville/Ocala, Brooksville, Tampa, Brandon, St. Pete/Clearwater, Sarasota/Bradenton, Lakeland/Winter Haven, Port Charlotte and Jacksonville to help feed hungry school children during the 2018-2019 school year.

The JOY FM is partnering with local backpack food organizations to provide school children with food each weekend this school year. This year, The JOY FM listening community in North, Central & Southwest Florida will collect over 20 tons of food in the form of individually packaged items. The grocery list posted at thejoyfm.com is inspired by the acronym #bejoy…
‘b’ – boxes of cereal, ‘e’ – easy mac & cheese, ‘j’ – jello, ‘o’ – oatmeal and ‘y’ – your choice. In exchange, The JOY FM will give each donor a #bejoy drawstring backpack. The food items we collect will be given to area food organizations during the 4th annual #bejoy Backpacks promotion. The total food collected represents only a fraction of the demand to meet the need for the entire school year. Food items will be collected at 15 live, on-air locations, over a 3 hour period from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, August 28th. Visit thejoyfm.com for a list of all these locations.

The promotion will serve hundreds of local schools from Jacksonville, Gainesville/Ocala, Bradenton/Sarasota, Tampa, St.Pete/Clearwater and Port Charlotte, Florida. Backpacks full of food for these children help to bridge the gap over the weekends when they may not have food at home. The JOY FM is a network of non-commercial, listener-supported contemporary Christian music stations serving Southwest, Central and North Florida since 1986 and Metro Atlanta/East Alabama since 2011. It is owned by Radio Training Network, and is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization.
