Tampa, Fla. – Hillsborough River will be a sea of yellow as the Kiwanis Club of Tampa invades the waters with 10,000+ rubber ducks on Saturday, August 18th, 2018 from 10am to 12 noon. The individually numbered ducks will race down the river in front of Curtis Hixon Park and the first 3 ducks to cross the finish line will win their adoptive parents cash prizes. First place duck is $5,000. Second place duck is $1,000. Third place duck is $500. Various other prizes too. You don’t have to be present to win, but the Tampa Kiwanis hope you will join them to watch the ducks race down the river.
In the inaugural year of the duck race last year, the Tampa Kiwanis had a goal of selling 5,000 ducks. They surpassed that goal by 2,400 with 7,400 ducks and raised $20,000 for Tampa children! This year they plan to double that original goal and sell 10,000 ducks!
“This family-friendly event features activities for children, games, food trucks, music, a duck mascot and entertainment leading up to the big race,” explains Susan Maurer, Kiwanis Club of Tampa President. “Attendance is free and we are anticipating 1500+ participants. Our entire Kiwanis Club membership is behind this fun & creative fundraiser. The Incredible Duck Race is presented by CenterState Bank and various other sponsors. We appreciate their support.”
To purchase your lucky duck, contact a Kiwanis Club of Tampa member or online at TampaDuckRace.com. The ducks may be purchased by the public for $5 per duck and all proceeds benefit The Tampa Kiwanis Foundation which supports many Tampa area children’s programs and charities.
The Kiwanis Club of Tampa has been helping children in the community since 1919. Locally we build ramps for the disabled, hold immunization events, purchase holiday gifts for kids in need, provide scholarships, work with leadership clubs in schools at the middle school, high school and college level, and build reading rooms in Boys and Girls Clubs around Tampa. Additionally our foundation provides grants to local non-profit organizations. Our Kiwanians pride themselves on their “hands-on” philosophy of community outreach.
