Meals on Wheels provides healthy lunches to children and families at multiple back-to-school events
Sarasota – August 4, 2018 – Meals on Wheels of Sarasota donated close to 1,000 lunches for the 10th annual Days 4 Hope hosted by Hope 4 Communities. The 14 back-to-school events made it possible for children in need to get new backpacks, uniforms, shoes and school supplies; personal care items; dental, medical and vision exams; haircuts; and child and family portraits. Meals on Wheels donated lunch for hundreds of children and their families who attended.
Among the many services and school supply stations, there were activities for children like face-painting, and representatives from organizations that provide support for families were there to speak to parents. Lunch was served nearby and the cacophony of sounds was punctuated with squeals of excitement as children opened their new backpacks. Meals on Wheels Board President Dick Robbins volunteered at one of the churches and said, “This is such a wonderful event – a real celebration of the new school year. The joy coming from these kids is contagious.”
