Memorial Hospital of Tampa Performs Mazor X™ Spine Surgery Procedure

August 7, 2018 by Post

Tampa, Florida (August 7, 2018) – Memorial Hospital of Tampa is proud to announce that it now offers spine procedures using the Mazor X™ surgical assurance platform. The procedure was first performed at Memorial Hospital by Samuel Joseph, MD, orthopaedic surgeon, board certified in spinal surgery. The Mazor X™ Assurance Platform combines unprecedented pre-operative planning tools and analytics with intra-operative guidance, which improves safety and efficiency, while giving patients the most advanced spinal surgery options available.

“I am particularly pleased that Memorial Hospital had acquired the Mazor X™ system because of the highest level of pre-operative assessment and intra-operative precision,” said Dr. Joseph. “As spinal surgery has evolved, more focus has been placed on minimizing trauma to the body during surgery and expediting the return to function of the use of minimally invasive techniques,” he added.

Minimally-invasive procedures can mean less pain, less blood loss, smaller incisions, shorter hospitalizations and shorter recovery time for patients. According to Dr. Joseph, smaller incisions usually pose a challenge to physicians due to limited view of the anatomy. However, the Mazor X™ system helps to overcome the challenge with a three D comprehensive surgical plan and analytics that provide information before the surgery even starts, resulting in greater precision and efficiency.

“Advanced surgical technology has been a major focus for us our hospital in recent years,” said Sonia Wellman, Chief Executive Officer of Memorial Hospital of Tampa. “We believe in providing the most advanced technologies along with the highest quality of care for our patients. Using the Mazor X™ system will further enable our surgeons to achieve the best possible patients’ outcome,” she added.
