The Watermark at Trinity Receives National Awards

July 19, 2018 by Post

TAMPA, Fla. (July 19, 2018) — The Watermark at Trinity, an assisted living and memory care community located in Pasco County, has received national recognition once again. The community was recently honored by national senior living provider Watermark Retirement Communities with seven awards, including Rookie of the Year for Memory Care Program Director Shannon Morelli, RN, CDP, CADDCT, and a Breakthrough Award for the community’s Alzheimer’s Support Group.

Watermark Retirement Communities, which owns and operates The Watermark at Trinity and 51 other communities nationwide, honored the community during its annual awards recognition in Tucson, AZ.

“We’re thrilled to be recognized for our incredible memory care programming led by Shannon and our team of Certified Dementia Practitioners, called Nayas,” said Aileen Carlson, Executive Director of The Watermark at Trinity. “Shannon has done an incredible job of applying Watermark’s unique vision for memory care and creating an environment where our residents thrive.”

Watermark Retirement Communities’ vision for memory care challenges traditional assumptions about what is possible and places residents first in all that they do. The program strives for whole person well-being and includes opportunities for residents to connect to their past and present and remain active in both body and mind.

Associate Wendy Morrison was also honored with a Breakthrough Award for her contributions to the community’s Alzheimer’s Support Group, which provides support for family members and loved ones of those living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. The group meets twice a month and is open to the public.

In addition, the community was honored with the Watermark for Kids Award, which is awarded to the community which best represents Watermark for Kids – a national nonprofit associated with Watermark Retirement Communities. The nonprofit is committed to empowering underserved kids from ages 6 through 22 to express their character, leadership, creativity, compassion and spirit.

In 2017, The Watermark at Trinity sponsored two Watermark Kids and donated to a community soccer program to provide scholarships for children in the community and support an active lifestyle. Residents rallied around 11-year-old Michelina Damianakis in December as she raised money through her company Floppies to buy toys for children at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. Their support helped Michelina exceed her fundraising goal for the year.

“Giving back is so important to our residents and associates, and we’re honored to do so through Watermark for Kids,” said Carlson. “We’ve been honored to meet a number of incredible kids in the community and seeing the joy on our residents faces when they hear about how they’ve helped someone is truly a gift.”
