SARASOTA, Fla. (July 9, 2018) – University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Regional Chancellor Dr. Karen Holbrook has named Dr. Gert-Jan de Vreede interim dean of the College of Business, replacing Dr. James Curran, who has elected to return to teaching full-time this fall.
Dr. de Vreede has served as a professor in the Department of Information Systems & Decision Sciences at the University of South Florida Muma College of Business in Tampa for the past three years. He also is a professor at the International Summer School at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, China, and a lecturer at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. He will officially begin his duties at USF Sarasota-Manatee on Aug. 6. Dr. de Vreede joined USF in 2015 after serving in a variety of capacities at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) from 2002 to 2015. He was the founding director of UNO’s interdisciplinary Center for Collaboration Science from 2006 to 2015, combining business, information science and technology, psychology, communication and public administration for the study of collaboration between individuals, teams and organizations. In addition to teaching, Dr. de Vreede has extensive experience conducting research and securing research grants. Dr. de Vreede completed his master’s degree in information systems (1991), and a PhD in systems engineering (1995), at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He served as chair of the Department of Systems Engineering, Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management at Delft from 2001 to 2002, before becoming a professor at Nebraska-Omaha. “The College of Business faculty and I are excited to welcome Dr. de Vreede to USFSM,” said Dr. Holbrook. “He is known to be an outstanding teacher, researcher and administrator and his experience in developing successful teams and organizations will certainly help propel the USFSM College of Business to even greater heights.
