Meals on Wheels to provide healthy lunches to children and families at multiple back-to-school events
Sarasota β July 10, 2018 β Meals on Wheels of Sarasota will donate close to 1,000 lunches for the 10th annual Days 4 Hope events hosted by Hope 4 Communities. In July and August, 14 local church campuses open their doors for a full day of back-to-school preparation for homeless and low-income children and their families. For the first time, Meals on Wheels will donate food to the churches within its service area to feed the hundreds of children, parents, volunteers and vendors who attend the events.
βThe cornerstone of our work is our commitment to preparing great tasting food that is also healthy and nutritious. We are thrilled to participate in these events and help the youngsters get ready for a new school year,β said Marjorie Broughton, Meals on Wheels of Sarasota executive director.
Each church hosts a variety of services to help children get ready to attend school with dignity. Kids receive backpacks, uniforms, shoes and school supplies; personal care items; dental, medical and vision exams; haircuts; and child and family portraits. Amid all the activity, lunch from Meals on Wheels of Sarasota will be available to all.
