ScART Hosted by Painting With A Twist-St Pete

Every Scar Tells a Story…Share Yours!

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – With an estimated 15.5 million cancer survivors alive in the U.S., Painting with a Twist® St. Petersburg has partnered with You Night, an organization that helps to prepare women for life after cancer, to launch a self-care and self-acceptance experience for cancer survivors called ScART. A combination of scar and art, ScART connects a network of cancer survivors to find acceptance of their scars in a supportive environment. Painting with a Twist St. Petersburg will host its second ScART class on Thursday, July 12th from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Prior to class, ScART participants will be asked to hand-sketch a picture of their scar, which will then be transferred to canvas with the help of a Painting with a Twist studio artist. Once at the studio, ScART guests discuss their own scars and take time to view everyone’s scars on a white canvas. It then becomes a free-form art class, which allows them to tap into their emotions during the painting experience. The final product is a unique and abstract piece of art with a special meaning.
“Emotional healing from surgical scars vary from one cancer survivor to the next and talking about it often feels taboo,” explained You Night Founder and Executive Producer Lisa McKenzie. “ScART provides survivors the opportunity to gather and talk with other survivors, and hopefully help view their scars with a new lens.”
The cost to participate in ScART is $55 per person, and part of the proceeds from the class, which is open to all cancer survivors, will be donated to the “We Lift You Up” foundation, a 501(c)3 organization that’s dedicated to helping women embrace life beyond cancer.
“To be able to give cancer survivors an outlet to heal and begin to accept their own scars is an incredible honor,” said Leslie Gay, owner of Painting with a Twist St. Petersburg. “We hope this class helps cancer survivors not only view their scars as beautiful and empowering, but also expose them to an entire community who have faced similar emotional battles.”
