Tampa, Fla. – June 26, 2018 – Carlton Fields is pleased to announce that Robert Freedman, a shareholder in the Tampa office, received the Project H.E.L.P. “Dedicated Service” Award. The award is presented to attorneys who volunteer their time and talent to serve low income individuals in the community. He was honored at the Third Annual Project H.E.L.P. Reception and Recognition Ceremony on May 2.
Project H.E.L.P. was started by a federal district court judge to engage local attorneys, law students, and law firm professional staff to administer free legal assistance to the homeless in cities throughout the nation.
Since beginning its partnership with Project H.E.L.P. two years ago, Carlton Fields attorneys have provided regular pro bono service to the organization’s weekly legal clinic at Metropolitan Ministries, a non-profit in Tampa that offers housing, meals, education, and life skills training to those in need.
Freedman, who serves as Carlton Fields’ liaison to the program, has led the firm’s efforts to staff 20 clinics, where lawyers extended referrals and legal advice to more than 100 individuals dealing with issues related to landlord tenant disputes, incarcerations, veterans’ benefits, and more.
He was specifically recognized for his role in marshalling needed resources, managing intake processes, and contributing legal counsel at the clinics.
Firm attorneys Caycee Hampton, Jourdan Haynes, Jin Liu, Erica Mallon, Elizabeth Scarola, Lauren Sembler, and Jacqueline Pace Swigler also participate in the project.
