TAMPA, Fla. (June 15, 2018) – WUSF Public Media is pleased to announce the hiring of Jessica Meszaros to the WUSF newsroom and the Morning Edition news team.
Meszaros will serve as a WUSF reporter and will be one of the hosts of Morning Edition. She comes to Tampa with six years of broadcasting experience in media markets across Florida, including Miami and Fort Myers.
“Morning Edition starts the day and gives so many people their first news of the day, and we take that responsibility very seriously.” Meszaros said. “I’m looking forward to exploring the Tampa Bay area and reporting on stories that keep local listeners intrigued, inspired and informed.”
A multi-award-winning reporter, Meszaros received four 2018 Florida Associated Press Broadcasters (FAPB) awards and was recently granted the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) N.S. Bienstock Fellowship, which supports new minority professional broadcast journalists.
Additionally, Meszaros has received numerous other honors, such as an Edward R. Murrow Regional Award for Excellence in Writing from RTDNA and a Best Writing Division B award from PRNDI, a national public media news organization. Her assignments have varied from breaking news such as a Ft. Myers shooting that left two teens dead, to orange grove troubles, toxic algae blooms impacting marine life, and Florida’s death penalty process.
Meszaros graduated from Florida International University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the Honors College. Her first experience with journalism was an internship with the public radio station in Miami, WLRN.
“It was there that I fell in love with telling stories through sounds,” Meszaros said. “I’m fascinated with putting listeners in a place using detailed writing and natural sound.”
