St. Petersburg Festival of the Arts – SPF18 Returns for Fourth Year

St. Pete Performs! The fourth annual St. Petersburg Festival of the Arts – SPF18 will run October 19 – 28, 2018. Celebrating St. Petersburg’s well-known reputation as a leading arts and cultural destination, SPF18 showcases the performing arts with a spectrum of special events and one-of-a-kind experiences.

From opera to surprise pop-up performances in restaurants, SPF18 features theatre, dance, music, culinary arts and family friendly events. Experience the arts in new ways and places – be ready to be surprised and inspired!   SPF18 is produced by the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance with support from the City of St. Petersburg, business sponsors and individual contributors.

Oct. 19, 21, 23 St. Petersburg Opera

SPO opens their season with Don Giovanni (W.A. Mozart). Three performances of                      world-class opera.

Oct 19 & 23, 7:30 PM; Sunday Oct 21, 2 PM

Oct. 19                        The Florida Orchestra: Music of Queen Rock Concert

Fronted by a full rock band and vocalist, the orchestra performs the legendary                                band’s             greatest hits with power and grandeur.

Oct. 18 – 21    Tampa Bay Latin Film Festival (TBLFF)

St. Petersburg’s first ever film festival dedicated to contemporary Latin American film.  The festival includes a Friday night film co-sponsored by Eckerd College’s International Film Series. TBLFF will include panel discussions and film screenings.

Oct. 20            The Florida Orchestra Pops in the Park

                        Bring a date or the whole family for free music under the stars in waterfront                                   Vinoy Park. Fireworks finale! Food trucks and family activities available.

Oct. 22                        An Evening of Jazz

Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz presents a special evening of St. Pete jazz.

Oct. 24                        Artful Wine Pairings Dinner Benefit

The Birchwood hosts the fourth annual Artful Wine Pairings Dinner. The five-course dinner features specially selected estate wines from around the world.  Chef Luke Decker will introduce dishes inspired by local artists representing visual, literary, glass, dance and music arts.   The once-a-year culinary event benefits SPF18. Every table was filled the last two years!

Oct. 25                        Cabaret Benefit

Capture the fun of cabaret at St. Petersburg’s speakeasy. Benefit for SPF18.

Oct. 25-27       Festival Pop-Up Performance

Unexpected performances in unexpected places! Street performers, artists, singers, musicians, chamber orchestras will pop up throughout downtown and in many restaurants over the weekend.

Oct. 25-26       Work: Site – Dance at Work

Six site-specific dance works created in and for workplaces in and around downtown St. Petersburg. A project of Dance Linkages, curated and directed by Andee Scott, WORK:SITE invites the audience to experience the making and performing of dance as public art, with open rehearsals occurring during regular business hours at each location leading up to the performances. Choreographers include Christina Acosta (FL), Laura Gutierrez

(TX), Julie Nathanielsz (NY), Katurah Robinson (FL), Andee Scott (FL) and Natalia Vazquez (MX). Free Admission, Various locations​ & times TBA

Oct. 26                        Improvapalooza! with American Stage in the Palladium Theatre

A night of laughs and spontaneous storytelling with American Stage Improv, and also popular improv teams from near and far, including the award-winning duo Hawk & Wayne, who hail from Second City and The Groundlings. Improvisation is truly live theatre! The plot, characters and dialogue of a scene or story are created in the moment. Every performance is new, unique, and captivating. Join us to celebrate this art form, our talented local and regional improv teams, and the special guest headliner. “Adults” only.

Oct. 27                        The Florida Orchestra: Evening at Bach’s Coffeehouse

Award-winning harpsichordist and conductor Jeannette Sorrell leads an intimate                            evening featuring TFO’s strings, including Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3.

Oct. 27                        Take A Chance Dance Project

Actors/writers, Bob Devin Jones, Fanni Green and Maureen McDole will co-                                                        choreograph three performance pieces with Paula Kramer that infuse dance into                                                           original narratives that focus on a sense of place.  The excitement lies in having a                                                       chance to make their dance debut and reveal the dancers that lie within.

Oct. 28            Orchestra Fuego Concert & Dance – Benefit for Puerto Rico Relief

The hottest Salsa Band that has been firing up Tapa Bay! Playing a wide variety of Latin American music including Salsa, Merengue, Cha-Cha, Bolero and Bachata. This Sunday afternoon dance with the hottest and Grammy Nominated Latin Orchestra in Tampa Bay includes a class and special dance performances.

Oct. 28                        Sunshine City, The Musical – Staged Reading

Jack Handsome single-handedly revives the St. Petersburg tourist industry with                                                     outrageous marketing stunts, but finds that winning Flora Day’s heart takes more than                                          clever words. Set in the waning years of the 1920s land boom, Sunshine City, the                                                      Musical is a family-friendly mainstream show featuring a tap-dancing dog, singing                                                 alligators, “Sea Vamps” and a cameo appearance by Ponce de Leon himself! “Soon all                                            America will sing this ditty: Come on down to Sunshine City!”
Written by Dewey Davis-Thompson and Tom Sivak, Sunshine City, the Musical will be                                        presented in a concert performance by 15 local actors, and the composer at the piano.
