TAMPA, Fla., June 8, 2018 – Burr & Forman LLP announces that Tampa Partner John A. Schifino was recently sworn in as president of The Hillsborough County Bar Association (HCBA). The official installation of officers and directors took place at the Chester H. Ferguson Law Center on Thursday, June 7.

On May 13, 1896, Hillsborough County’s lawyers organized a bar association and began with 28 founding members. Today the HCBA is one of the largest voluntary bar associations in Florida with a membership close to 4,000 attorneys, judges and legal professionals. The HCBA’s mission is “to inspire and promote respect for the law and the justice system through service to the legal profession and the community.”

As president, Schifino will oversee the HCBA’s more than 30 sections and committees, working with them to provide its members with community service programs, continuing legal education (CLE) seminars, membership programming, and specific practice area education. Schifino will also work closely with the judges in Hillsborough County addressing issues that impact the judicial branch.

Schifino has served on the HCBA board of directors since 2011, the executive committee of the HCBA’s 600-member Trial and Litigation Section since 2010, and chaired the section in 2015-2016.
