The athletic apparel retailers to relocate from University Square Mall to Fowler Plaza South
TAMPA, FL — Champs Sports and Footaction, both divisions of Foot Locker, Inc. (NYSE: FL), have signed leases to relocate the company’s University Square Mall stores in Tampa to Fowler Plaza South, a highly visible strip center located directly across from the mall and near the University of South Florida.
Champs Sports new 5,600 square foot store occupies the center’s end cap and has been designed to allow Champs Sports and its vendor partners to tell key stories in new and creative ways, enhancing the customer shopping experience. Champs Sports is one of the largest mall-based specialty athletic footwear and apparel retailers in North America. Its product categories include athletic footwear and apparel, and sport-lifestyle inspired accessories.
Footaction opened a 5,200 square foot store in the same center. Footaction offers the latest footwear, apparel and accessories from Nike, Jordan, adidas, UGG, FILA, Vans, Champion, American Stitch, Wu Wear, DNM, Dope and more.
Both stores opened at the new location May 16th. Pat DeWitt of Florida Retail Partners, an X Team partner, brokered the leases on behalf of the center’s owner with Martin Hennessy & Vanesa Rodriguez of Katz & Associates representing Foot Locker, Inc. The new locations give Champs Sports and Footaction much higher visibility and direct store access for their customers according to DeWitt. With these two leases Fowler Plaza South located at Fowler Avenue and 22nd Street is 95% leased.
