The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) approves increasing Oak Hill’s GME Program from three programs to six
Spring Hill, Florida (May 30, 2018) – Oak Hill Hospital is proud to announce that it has received institutional accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to increase its Graduate Medical Education programs from three to six beginning July 2018. Oak Hill currently offered GME programs in internal medicine, family medicine and transitional year. It has been authorized to expand with the addition of general surgery, anesthesia, and emergency medicine.
The general surgery program has been authorized in 2018 for 18 residents starting with three categorical and three preliminary residents for this five-year program. Oak Hill Hospital is an integrated site with Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. The program director is Dr. Frederick Cason, MD, FACS (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons).
The anesthesiology program has been authorized in 2018 for 18 residents starting with six residents in the first year of the three-year program. The program director is Dean F. Connors, MD, PhD, MS, FASA (Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists). Dr. Connors is also Program Director for GME Transitional Year.
The emergency medicine program has been authorized in 2018 for 18 residents starting with six residents in the first year of the three-year program. The program director is Marc Grossman, MD, FACEP, (Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians), CPHM (Certified Professional in Health Care Management) CPHM.
“We are proud to offer the most advanced academic medical education program in the area. Our program is dedicated to providing the very best in education to those who come to us from the nation’s medical schools. We are pleased to be able to offer residents these great educational opportunities to participate in our post-graduate medical education program,” said Oak Hill Hospital CEO, Mickey Smith.
According to Florida Department of Health there is a critical statewide need for physicians and the expansion of GME programs such as Oak Hill Hospital’s can help alleviate the shortages. The program will also benefit the local community because studies show that many physicians practice where they complete their residency.
