State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) student Trace Gerber brought home a second-place win in the prepared speech competition at PTK Catalyst 2018 held in Kansas City, Missouri. Gerber, who was an Outstanding Graduate Award finalist at graduation, is a member of the Alpha Mu Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) at SCF Venice.
He competed against 40 PTK members from around the world, winning a $250 scholarship and PTK recognition pin. He was recognized during a ceremony at the national convention last month. Gerber, who is a nationally ranked competitor in speech, debate and moot court, graduated from SCF this month and plans to transfer to the University of Tampa where he has been accepted in the honors program and will major in math and political science.
“Attending SCF has provided me with infinite opportunities for which I am eternally grateful,” Gerber said. “Working shoulder-to-shoulder with such an outstanding student body and learning from such esteemed professors has been an amazing experience.”
