VENICE, Fla. — Last month, J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp., a Venice-based commercial construction company, began the remodeling for the Perkins Restaurant & Bakery in Venice.
Designed by Beebe Design Studio Architects, Inc., the team will demolish and add 1,154 square feet and renovate 2,163 square feet of the existing 6,370-square-foot space. The restaurant will reopen in early October 2018 due to the updates needed to accommodate the reconfiguration and widening of U.S. 41 Bypass.
The new building entrance will be slightly shifted to the west to accommodate two automatic sliding doors. The 1,154-square-foot addition will be located on the southern side.
This is part of Perkins Restaurant & Bakery’s continuous design and construction improvement program to enhance the customer’s experience. This particular project was scheduled for renovation but was pending final construction approval due to the widening of the Bypass.
Once the west wing demolition is complete, new concrete and masonry will be laid to enclose the building’s new addition. The construction company will install new metal framing and drywall, roofing materials, insulation, flooring, ceiling tiles, architectural trim, display equipment and booths. The renovation also includes new paint, chairs, tables and artwork throughout. The kitchen will receive upgraded equipment, plumbing, electrical, a fire protection system and heating, ventilation and air conditioning units.
“When we first learned of the bypass reconfiguration and were advised that the road expansion would impact our restaurant, we were faced with a variety of options,” said Julie Roettger, vice president of operations for Northcott Hospitality and a longtime Perkins franchisee who owns and operates the Venice location. “We quickly decided that we wanted to continue our more than 30-year history with the Venice community and invested in some adjacent property that would allow us to rebuild the affected portions of the dining area. We have opted to take the opportunity to remodel the restaurant at the same time.”
The building’s exterior will sport new green striped awnings, lighting and stucco and stone finishes. Located at 1331 S. 41 Bypass in Venice, visitors can expect an updated and more contemporary-feeling restaurant with its signature bakery.
“While we apologize for any inconvenience that the closure of the Venice Perkins may cause, we are truly excited about the enhancements that our guests can look forward to,” said Roettger.
