Pasco, Hillsborough & Pinellas, Florida – (May 10, 2018) Medical Center of Trinity recently recognized Visal Numrungroad, MD, as this year’s Frist Humanitarian Physician of the Year.
The Frist Humanitarian Award was founded in 1971 and honors outstanding individuals for their humanitarian and volunteer activities. It is one of HCA’s Awards of Distinction and is one of the highest honors that HCA bestows on employees, physicians. Name in honor of Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr., a founder of HCA and renowned humanitarian, this award recognizes individuals whose daily dedication and caregiving epitomize the highest standards of quality and personal commitment.
Dr. Numrungroad is well respected by patients and colleagues, known for teamwork and providing quality and individualized care for his patients He is a member of the Project HOPE team that responded to those in need after Hurricane Maria’s devastation, volunteering in Puerto Rico for two weeks and collecting donations in Tampa Bay for those in need. “Dr. Numrungroad is an exemplary model of Medical Center of Trinity’s mission statement: To always provide exceptional care to every patient with a spirit of warmth, compassion, and personal pride.”, said Leigh Massengill, Chief Executive Officer of Medical Center of Trinity.
Dr. Numrungroad is a practicing nephrologist in Hudson and New Port Richey. He received his medical degree from the University Central Del Caribe and completed internship and residency at the University of South Florida. He is board certified in nephrology.
About Dr. Thomas Frist
Dr. Frist served as president of HCA until the mid-70’s and was a nationally known cardiologist and internist who served patients for over 50 years. This award was important to him for he was always quoted as saying, “Good people beget good people,” when referring to the caliber of individuals staffing HCA facilities. He founded the Frist Foundation in 1982, which is a philanthropic organization that has donated millions of dollars in support of health programs, the performing arts, and education. Among his many achievements is that he was asked to serve on the health, education and welfare advisory committee on older Americans.
About the Award
In order to receive the Humanitarian Award, the recognized physician must display a concern for the well-being of others beyond his/her day-to-day responsibilities. The physician must embody the mission, vision and values of the Medical Center of Trinity and that of a true humanitarian.
