The student body, teachers, administrators and parents of Northwest Elementary School in Hudson, FL celebrated their annual “Field Day” event on Friday, May 4, 2018. This event comes after state-wide student testing is complete and features recreational activities, food and fun. 2018 marked the fourth consecutive year Chef’s from the ACF Tampa Bay Chapter participated in support of our Chef and Child healthy eating initiatives. Chef’s Ray Benton, CEC HACC and Vince Blancato prepared smoothies for the students and volunteers consisting of bananas, blueberries, strawberries, apple juice and yogurt. The combination of these health-packed ingredients were designed to keep the students hydrated during the outdoor events and supplied them with key nutrients such as potassium, minerals and fiber. Blues Berry Farm, Plant City supplied the blueberries and strawberries while Fresh Point, Tampa supplied the bananas, our appreciation goes out to our partners who made this event a success!
About the ACF Tampa Bay Chapter:
Our chapter’s purpose is the advancement of the culinary profession and culinary awareness through education and certification of the membership and close interaction with other local organizations. The chapter membership is composed of chefs, cooks, culinary educators, students, and purveyors from Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas Counties and the surrounding metro area. Our primary local outreach program is the ACF Educational Foundation’s Chef & Child Initiative, an ongoing program whereby our chapter chefs educate children and families in understanding proper nutrition by providing tools and resources for community-based programs led by American Culinary Federation chef members.
