Pasco, Hillsborough & Pinellas, Florida – (April 25, 2018) Medical Center of Trinity recently recognized two nurses for the Excellence in Nursing Awards, established by HCA to honor outstanding nurses who demonstrate excellence in professional mentoring and compassionate care. The awards honor exceptional individuals whose work and lives reflect patient-centered and humanitarian values upon which HCA was founded.

Excellence in Nursing for Compassionate Care was presented to Tracy Brown, RN, in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. This award honors a nurse whose knowledge and expert skills create a quality experience and improve outcomes for our patients.
Ms. Brown’s 30 years of experience coupled with her dedication to keeping up-to-date with the latest information in her field of cardiac care ensures patients are provided with the best of care. She has a reputation for setting a high standard for her interaction with patients and colleagues, and is known for treating each patient as if they are family. Her nomination stated “She goes above and beyond what is necessary to ensure that all of her patients feel welcome and calm and provides extra attention for them to feel safe and secure.” She assists coworkers to guarantee the best outcome for any job being performed.

The Excellence in Nursing Professional Mentor Award was presented to Sue Wegener, RN, Behavioral Health. This award celebrates a nurse who has dedicated themselves to guiding and supporting career advancement for individuals and groups of nurses. In 2017, Ms. Wegener developed and implemented a Mental Health Awareness Night for Girl Scouts that was held at Medical Center of Trinity. The evening was spent educating the Scouts and their families about mental health issues. Ms. Wegener is the Chair for the hospital’s Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk, raising funds year after year and spreading awareness of mental health issues.
Ms. Wegener spearheaded and integrated education pertaining to Trauma Informed Care and how it impacts the nursing practice throughout the hospital. She leads by example and with a strong sense of commitment, empathy for her patients and compassion for what she does.
